I Get this Question A Lot So I have put this visual guide to help you get started

This is a washed prefold. Place the diaper flat on a surface ( I use the floor with a pad for most my changing)

prefoldexp1.jpg

As seen ( I have the diaper placeed over a diaper cover) fold over the bottom half of the prefold diaper on one side . Then fold over the bottom half of the other side to make a rectangle .
This leaves the top of the diaper full opened.  Shown in next view.

This is view with both sides folded in .

Fold in front half of diaper to fit the cover. This can be done either direction . You can fold this with the fold on the outside of the babies skin or the inside of the babies skin. This is shown folding inside .

You may pin the diaper shut or use a Snappi fastner.  When pinning the diaper place your finger behind the diaper and pin it as shown here.

Tip * placing your pins into a bar of soap will allow the pin to glide in smoothly as the pin dulls.

A Snappi can be used view  How to Use a Snappi Fastner
now.

Then close the diaper cover.

It is not a must to use a fastner, you can just wrap up the diaper as you are closing the cover.  Contoured diapers usaully work smoother with that as they are cut to fit the covers and require no folding.  They cost a little more.

I may sometimes have these available email me for an order of these as I will make them for you of your choice material.  Prices can vary due to choice.

Doubling your diaper.  This can be done in 2 ways.  Here we show a double with 2 prefolds.  I take one prefold lay it flat. I take another prefold and fold in into a long rectangle as seen.  This is placed center into the prefold .

Here a prefold is seen using a diaper doubler. Place the doubler in the center of the prefold.

Fold the diaper in at the sides ( as we did above with the single prefold) if needed ( for smaller babies ) fold in the front part to fit into the cover.   Fasten the top or just wrap it up into the cover as was shown above with the single prefold.

The need for doublers is not a must,   as seen you can use prefolds as a doubler and save money. ( they are nice to have though for heavy wetters)

The prefolds are one of the most affordable way to diaper. These are also easier to clean and take less drying time.

All in ones take the most drying time.  Pocket diapers take up less drying time than an AIO because they come apart for the washing and drying ( but take longer than a prefold).

So a prefold saves you money on washing , drying and start up cost. They are not as hard as you may think, they are actually, just as easy.
