Q.What is a birth doula?
A. A doula is someone who provides continuous physical , emotional and informational
support to the mother and father or birth partner before , during and just after childbirth.
Q. How can
a birth doula help me during labor?
A. A doula can help by explaining and giving
educational information of birth procedures, help with pain by massaging your back, suggesting different birthing positions
to help labor along, they help with physical and emotional support for both mom and dad sometimes even family members. The
use of aroma therapy which is used for relaxation, ( my favorite being lavender and clary sage) anlong with the use of music
and other focal points all help in providing a more relaxed birthing experience.
Q.Why should you choose me to be your birth doula?
A.
I am a mother myself of eight beautiful children. I have experienced natural birth, induced birth , epidural birth, a c-section,
and also the tragic experience of miscarriage. I have also used Dr's and Midwifes . I have done my own water birth
and have lots of experience with water birthing and home birthing along with Hospital birthing. I am easy
to get along with which is a plus for you and your provider as that is important that your care provider trusts and gets along
with your Doula I am now a certified Nutritional Consultant and can advise you to nutritionally
during your preganacy, along with your midwife or Dr.
Q. How much do you charge?
A. I charge
a fee of $800.00 , for a hospital birth when you are using a OBGYN or a Midwife RN , this includes approximately
3 home visits (some may need more with no extra charge) , To get to know you and your concerns about labor and birth, to educate
you and your birth partner. To practice birth positions and breathing, and rediscuss any concerns. I provide continuous support
to you and your partner during labor and I stay until you are comfortable for me to leave after the birth. I write a memorable
birth story for you and present it to you on my visit after the birth, where we can go over it and discuss any concerns with
baby, breast feeding ect. I provide unlimited phone consulting during your pregnancy and after the birth if needed. I can
provide pictures if wanted either your camera or mine. ( I have had to raise the fees due to the cost of gas )
I charge $200.00 if your caregiver is a Midwife, and you are doing a home birth. In this case
I would meet with you about 1 time during your midwife appointment . I can be called and available to you before the midwife
comes during your earlier labor . I would assist in helping out the midwife, you and your husband with what ever needs to
be done . I would help clean up after and make sure everything is taken care of before leaving. I do not follow up with
you after the birth , you would follow up with your midwife.
Doulas are not your full care provider.
