I just recently did
a birth ( my daughters) and to my amazement she did not PUSH. I have heard of this before but through my doula
years and my birthing of my own children, never saw it in action. It was always , Ok you are complete go ahead
and Push now. Even for the home births I had attended , the pushing part was there. Well , now I'm a believer
of the "No Push" as I saw how beautiful it is. The way this is done is having the
mother being as relaxed as we care givers can make her and when she is complete , she just breathes through the contractions.
I think it took about an hour longer than if we would have directed her to push but the results were unbeliveable.
My daughter had her first baby and had no rips and a very quick birth. I think we had her do one unh... and that was
about it. The baby traveled down slowly and she streched slowly rather than BLASTING the baby out, like
I was always directed to do in my past births. The baby , by himself rotated without assistance and then was beautifully
born. I am so amazed on how well this all worked out. Even as natural as I thought I was I still thought
pushing was ok , not a big beliver in directed pushing buttttt ..... as many women, I was trained by the past births
that you BLAST your baby out by pushing as soon as you are complete. Is that really Gods Plan??
I did not know, as we often do not realize what is going on in our own labors , but my last birth whom I choose to do with
a Midwife , (the same one my daugther had) I was not directed to push either and even though the delivery was faster
than my daughters, I did not rip or tear either . I asked my midwife if I had just blew the baby out also and
she said she just lets the mother do as she feels when she feels the need to do thingsand her answer was she never told me
to push ever. I know I did some pushing toward the end as I have been trained to do with all 7 past births but
with this birth she said I alllowed myself to strech slow enough not to rip and let my own body tell me what I
could handle . That was the ONLY birth that I never tore from. I had always had stiches in EVERY OTHER birth.
I beleive that this is the way to go. It really didn't tack on that much more time considering the fact you
do not have to go through the discomfort of healing a tear after the birth. My new advice to any women out there is
to close your eyes and just breathe through your contractions and ignore the shouts of PUSH, you know more than anyone
around you what you need to do and when you need to do it.
Queer as it may sound but I thought of animals when
they birth . I have only watched a cat and a dog labor before and they just lay there and labor , breathe through the
contractions, no other dog is barking at them to PUSH they just do it naturally when they feel the need to give that little
extra unh.. and the puppies are born and the dog does not need stiches and episiotomies. Hummmm , supose that is how
its all supose to be?
